The countdown for TATA IPL 2022 is finally over as the 15th edition and the biggest ever season starts today at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai at 7.30 pm IST.

With the addition of two new franchises namely, Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans, a total of 10 teams shall lock their horns with one another. Hence, a total of 74 matches shall be played to decide a winner at the IPL 2022.

The bigger and better than before, IPL2022 will witness the start of the tournament with the defending champions Chennai Super Kings taking on last year’s runners-up Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

As MS Dhoni has stepped down from the captaincy of the team CKS, Ravindra Jadeja will be leading the team CKS. On the other side of the team, since Eoin Morgan wasn’t picked by any team during this year’s auction, Shreyas Iyer will lead the KKR.

With new captains taking control of their respective teams, watching them in action would be even more exciting. Ravinder Jadeja, however, feels comfortable with the presence of Dhoni in the team.

All franchises had unique challenges this year at the players’ auction due to the addition of 2 new teams. However, fans would get to eat, drink and sleep more cricket and can expect a lot of excitement and thrilling moments with the IPL getting bigger.

The whole tournament shall be played within two cities – Mumbai and Pune. The teams will be split into two groups A and B. A total of 74 matches will be played including the league, playoffs, and the final.

The IPL 2022 will be played in India and UAE might be the alternative location in case the pandemic spreads again. The crowds will be limited to 25% capacity.

This year’s title sponsor is Tata Group.

IPL 2020 begins today, the 26th of March, and the final match will be played on 29th May 2022.
